Psychodynamic therapy
Understanding the past is often what frees us to live differently now.
What it is
Psychodynamic therapy looks beneath symptoms to the feelings, beliefs, and patterns that shape them, many of which formed early and operate outside awareness.
Rather than only managing symptoms, it aims to understand why they show up, so change can hold over time. Research supports its effectiveness for depression, anxiety, and longstanding relationship difficulties.
What it can help with
- Repeating patterns in relationships.
- Anxiety and depression with no clear cause.
- A sense of being stuck.
- Low self-worth or harsh self-criticism.
- Wanting deeper self-understanding.
What a session is like
Sessions are open and conversational. You talk about what feels most present, and we notice themes, feelings, and connections as they come up, including what happens between us in the room.
Psychodynamic work is often weekly and can be short or long term, depending on what you want.
Common questions
- Do I have to talk about my childhood? Only as much as feels useful. We follow what matters to you now.
- Is it only talking? Mostly, though we pay close attention to feelings, not just thoughts.
